4.0 out of 5 starsWorked fine for me / Great Humidty feature for summer ByEarl Dabneyon October 28, 2008 I bought this Thermostat in June, 2008 because it was one of the few Thermostats that had a real Humidity control option. Almost every night during the summer here in Atlanta, the house temperatures would drop down but the Humidity would rise and by morning I was waking up sweating. At first I bought a much more expensive (>$150) Thermostat (the Honeywell TH8321U1006). I quickly found out that the Honeywell Thermostats do NOT turn on the AC in response to a rise in Humidity. For humidity control they only continue to run the AC once the AC is already activated by a rise in temperature! (not much good in my desire to control overnight humidity). In addition the Honeywell only controls the Humidity in 5% increments and maxed out at 50% humidity. Well, enough about that PITA. What I like about the RiteTemp 6080 is that it's Humidity control option does activate the house air conditioner just by an increase in Humidity over the set point (even if it was not at the temperature set point). In addition it allows 1 degree changes in the Humidity set points (versus 5% increments for the Honeywell) In addition to the High limit Humidity control, it also has a Low limit set point that will activate a Humidifier if needed (but I do not have a humidifier and so I can not comment on this feature). In addition it has all of the typical electronic thermostat features such as filter reminders, battery reminders, etc. It also has a nice feature that will randomly turn the fan on occasionally to circulate the air in the house if it is not otherwise running and 3 different settings for how responsive you want the system to be to changes in temperature. I did drop my review down 1/2 star because the touch controls are a little difficult to use (a stylus works great) and also because it was not clear that the Remote will not work unless the Thermostat is hardwired in (my house has only the typical 4 Heat / AC controller wires and not a common power line). Researching why the remote did not work is when I found out that it is typical that thermostats without hardwired power do not stay on all of the time and only perform battery draining activities as required. As far as some of the complaints by other owners, I have not had any issues with the unit not responding and the temperature is spot on according to my electronic temperature guage that I have nearby (but it is possible to purposefully recalibrate the Thermostat up to a 6 degree difference from the real temperature which I thought was kind of a strange option but someone else might need this ability). I like that it has what they call a True-Auto mode. That means that once the Heat and Cold temperatures are set then you flip the switch to Auto mode and it will turn on either the AC or the Heat depending on the temperature. Works great instead of having to flip the switch to Heat in the morning and then over to AC before I leave the house (gotta love Atlanta weather in the Spring and Fall) Finally, I would much rather have a few buttons and have the Thermostat cost half as much as the high end units than have a very nice, full touch screen thermostat that doesn't do half as much. 2.0 out of 5 starsNot Happy with this RiteTemp Products ByA. Fernon July 28, 2008 Less than a year ago, we purchased 2 RiteTemp Thermostats at Home Depot. A bit more that $70 a piece. The price was reasonable and about $20 less than Honeywell for about equivalent hardware. My wife wanted the Honeywell product because we had it in our old house and it just worked. The only driver for me to purchase the RiteTemp was the screen. Within 3 months of having these pieces of junk, both thermostats started to go cookuu on us. Both loose time and day setting out of the blue and along goes the program seetings. And, every 3 to 4 weeks I have to re-program them. I had enough and the next time this happens the Home Depot will be getting them back. Called customer support, waited on hold for a long time. Left a message. They never called back. Did this twice. Called again. Someone answered, but hung up right away. Called again. Got "John" on the phone. Told him about my set up. He had me place the jumper on the wrong pins. Called again. Got "John" again. He said he was confused about my set up. This was a really painful setup, for me. I have 3 degrees in Computer Engineering. Including the PhD. This company makes me feel really stew-pit.
